THE FUTURE OF FOUR PEAKS SCHOOL
WHAT: Summary of April 12 2023 School Board Meeting
- MMES principal Kevin Wilkinson presented his plan for the current and future approach
to strengthening the quality of the educational experience for student, parents and
teachers. Enhanced regular communication from administration and teachers are a key
element in the success of the plan. - Teachers will be receiving a 2% salary increase in the near future, approved by the
Board at a past meeting. This is in addition to a raise implemented earlier this academic
year. - Local developer Bart Shea presented an overview of his vision for the Four Peaks
Campus. It included an Olympic-size swimming pool facility and the development of up
to several dozen small homes, about 1300 sq ft and in the range of about $300,000. The
homes would be targeted to young families with children. All of this would be operated
independently of the District under a long-term (99-year) lease of the land. The intent
would be to provide the District with a steady source of income from lease payments.
WHY:
- FHUSD is in competition with neighboring districts to attract and retain good teachers. Salary
structure is one of the key elements in this issue. Staff morale also plays an important role. - Four Peaks School has not been operating as a school for several years as a result of past
decline in enrollment. Parts of the building have been leased out to business tenants,
but the building is also in need of extensive and potentially expensive maintenance and
repairs. So, possible options for the most practical handling of the facility are being
explored.
CALL TO ACTION:
- Attend FHUSD Board meetings to learn about spending & other issues.
