Linda Brickman’s Legislative Updates 02/25/24

Linda Brickman’s Legislative Updates  #7  02/25/24

Better late than never.  Sorry about the delay in the Updates this week.  Spending 4 days and 4 nights in the hospital with my husband does not leave much time to do any work. We are back to “normal” again, and playing catch up…

The legislators made sure that their days were full of reading Bills so they could keep the opposite Chambers hopping.  It was no wonder why most of the Committees in the Senate were cancelled, so the Legislators could focus on staying on the Senate floor and moving Bills to the House.

With that said, roughly 200 Bills were being heard and moved to the opposite Chamber.  Remember, it was Crossover week, and the amount of Bills being shuffled around, was AMAZING.  So, Monday marks the half-way point for the Legislators, and no slowdown is expected to happen.

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH 040723 FINAL

CITIZEN LEGISLATOR

This week I am sending out an Informational piece, compiled with information from numerous sources on the different types of Initiatives used in our 50 states.  When reading it, view it as an encyclopedia format, instead of a straight article.  Hopefully, this data will help you understand the different types of Initiatives there are, and what is used in AZ.  There is a lot of material written, so please read it a little at a time, so you will not be too overwhelmed.

HOW TO CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATOR

The RTS (Request to Speak) system is a necessary component to our legislative process.  This is an excellent way to share your positions on a particular Bill and let your legislator know that you support his/her legislation.  Please review this site and make sure you know how to use it properly.  The legislators depend a lot on your opinions, and this is where you share them.

The link to sign up for the RTS system can be found here:  https://www.azleg.gov/alispdfs/Using_the_Request_to_Speak_Program.pdf

Please NOTE that you or one of our LD or Activist Groups on your behalf, are required to come to the capitol the first time you use the RTS system.  When you come to the Capitol, you can create an account and sign in on one of the Kiosks in either the House or Senate. If you create an account at home, you will only be able to use the Bill Status Inquiry application to track activity on a bill, not register an opinion or create a request to speak, until you, or someone on your behalf, come to the capitol and sign in on one of the Kiosks here.  You only need to physically come to the capitol once.  After that, everything can be done at home.

GENERAL INFORMATION

HOUSE AND SENATE EDUCATION BILLS AS OF 022524 2024 LEGISLATIVE UPDATE ALL 022524 FINAL AZ BALLOTS AND INITIATIVES 022524

As a gentle reminder to ALL of the people who recently received these updates, this is how to read the Bill attachments.

  • All the Bills listed on the attachments are mostly ALL the Republican Introduced Bills.
  • Most all of the Bills, are the GOP Bills that I monitor on a daily basis.  The Bills highlighted in Blue are Democratic Bills that I thought were necessary to follow.
  • And, the Bills highlighted with yellow in the status and date columns, are noted for your review to see their progression in the legislative process.  All Bills are up to date through 2/25/24.
  • Remember, each Bill Number listed is a link to the Bill itself and you can access the status, documents, and Agenda’s by clicking onto the link.  Even though I monitor and keep track of the Bills daily, I only send out Updates on the weekends.  So, if you want daily updates on any Bill, just click onto the Bill Number, and go to Overview or Status, for real-time information.

This week there are about 5 attachments: the Updated Legislative Bills for the week, a sheet listing all the Abbreviations used by the legislators, the Election Bills, the Education Bills, Citizen Legislator Informational Piece explaining the ballot and how Propositions and Initiatives come to the ballot.

Thank you all for asking to be a part of this mailing list.  If for some reason you wish to be removed from getting Updates, OR you know of someone that wants to be added to the mailing list, please contact me at my email address, Luvbug1611@cox.net

Respectfully,

Linda Brickman,
